Polaris Slingshot Ceramic Coated Dual Rear Exit Exhaust System by Thermal R&D
Every once in a great while a product is released for the Polaris Slingshot that absolutely blow our minds. This dual rear exit touring exhaust system from Thermal Research & Development is one of them! This is the first exhaust system for the Polaris Slingshot that checks all the boxes. It's ceramic coated from top to bottom, which insulates the exhaust heat, vastly reducing cabin foot well and trans tunnel temperatures, making it the most comfortable rear exit exhaust system we've tested to date. The entire system is built from 304 mandrel bent stainless steel and tucks in the trans tunnel so that you don't lose ground clearance. The exhaust system features custom billet aluminum exhaust hangars for the rear end and a trans tunnel mount with polyurethane bushings for the center support along with a center slip joint to allow for vast temperature variations. Most importantly, the tips run low to the ground and shoot out of both the left and right corners of the vehicle, making this the first dual exit exhaust system that is compatible with all of our rear fenders and luggage systems. It's also the first rear exit exhaust system that had zero emissions smell in the cabin. If you're looking for the creme de la creme of exhaust systems, with a perfectly balanced "drone free" exhaust note throughout the RPM band, that's backed with a Lifetime Warranty... Thermal R&D is the choice for you!

Do you need a 1320 header with this exhaust system? Also with this exhaust system does it change the sound of the slingshot? Looking for a deeper sound and hopefully less heat on the passenger side. ( Doug Kantor, 01/20/2019 7:46 pm )

Hello Doug, this system is a "cat back" system and can be run as is. You do however have the option to pair it with our aftermarket header and cat delete pipe if you'd like. It's the best sounding exhaust system we've heard so far for the Slingshot. Nice low rumble with zero emissions smell in the cabin due to the cat back configuration. It's ceramic coated head to tail.. this cuts the exhaust temperature by 50% in comparison to non-coated stainless steel. This is the only ceramic coated rear-exit exhaust system on the market at this time. Please let me know if you have further questions. Thanks!

Does this syestem replace factory muffler and catalytic converter ( Eric Retter, 01/20/2019 4:39 pm )
Hello Eric, yes and no. It comes with a new triple chamber ceramic coated muffler, but the system is cat back to prevent cabin fumes smell, which has been a huge complaint with other exhaust systems on the market. You can however run our aftermarket cat delete pipe and header if you'd like. Thanks for the inquiry.

HUGE heat reduction!
I installed this system in a weekend, using jack stands. Muffler springs easy to install with muffler and cat removed.
Heat on passenger floor and glove-box are eliminated. Wife can ride with bare feet. She has road barefoot for up to 3 hours at a time.
There is a little heat in the transmission tunnel but not even close to what it used to be with the stock system. I was able to re-install the factory heat-shield . I was able to put this back on with no trouble.
It feels like the power-band has been moved up in the RPM range.
Sound is a little louder with a lower tone but no drone.
This is a well engineered system, easy to install and does EXACTLY what the video advertises it does, eliminated firewall, glove-box and floorboard heat while reducing significantly the transmission tunnel heat. No cabin fuel smell as you are still using the catalytic converter pipe. NO drone and sounds so much better than the stock "milk truck" exhaust note.

Couldnt do it myself, heat shield?
First, after watching video I thought I could install. I had it up on jack stands , but still not enough room underneath to get at the muffler springs. Also, I have a 2017, that has a heat shield.
So I took it to the local dealer who had a proper lift to get sling all the way in the air. Even then, they said it was harder than expected, AND they removed the factory heat shield saying it had to come off, wouldn't work with new muffler. Thats the part that seems to be missing from install steps.

After, love the look, love the sound. Still can keep the radio at decent levels, but under acceleration, it sounds great!
Very nice, will have to wait to see what side affects from removing the heat shield are. Hopefully none!

Uploaded pics showing missing heat shield, but still has lower mount bracket in place. New muffler mounted at an angle compared to factory.

Works As Advertised
As many others hve said, the sound is perfectly balanced, not overly loud but a nice growl. The fit was amzlingly accurate. I agree with the another reviewer that I would relocate the water pipe prior to installing the muffler. Also, I added extra rubber to the water pipe rubber offset connected to the frame near the firewall. This made the water pipe sit exactly where it needs to be for best celarance of the trasmission and exhaust pipe. Also, cut the darn transmision mount bolts as close as you can to the nuts.

I used two jacks to raise the SS and placed 4 jackstands at maximum height. Very stable and a good height to allow my arms to manuver around. I also installed the 320 cat eliminator and exhaust header.

Pricy but you get what you pay for.
