2020+ Polaris Slingshot Ceramic Coated Dual Rear Exit "Sport" Tuned Exhaust System by Thermal R&D
Thermal R&D designed a ceramic coated dual rear exit “sport” exhaust system back in 2019 that was compatible with the 2.4 liter GM Ecotec engine that was used in the 2015 through 2019 Slingshot models. That exhaust was and still is wildly popular due to its refined sound, heat blocking ceramic coated finish and for its stylish looks.
Well… for the 2020 model year, Polaris made quite a few changes to the Slingshot. They swapped out the 2.4 liter Ecotec engine for their 2.0 liter Prostar engine, they added some cross bracing down the transmission tunnel and introduced an optional auto-drive transmission, which is explained as a hydraulically actuated manual transmission, that basically drives like an automatic.
So with all these changes in place, the team over at Thermal R&D immediately got to work on creating a new Dual Rear Exit Sport exhaust system for the 2020 and up Slingshot models. Now we knew the guys at Thermal would knock it out of the park, because they exceed our expectations on every product they make, but what we didn’t expect is how insane this 2.0 liter engine was going to sound with the thermal exhaust installed.
Now this is a cat-back exhaust, meaning it still uses the factory exhaust manifold and the factory catalytic converter just like version one did, but this new engine just sounds crazy. The differences from the older 2.4 liter engine vs the 2020 and up 2.0 Prostar engine is quite significant, with the new engine sounding like a Rally Car once opened up. Other than just sounding amazing, this entire exhaust system is ceramic coated from head to tail, including the muffler itself and the custom made Bugatti inspired exhaust tips. The ceramic coating not only drastically reduces heat but protects your exhaust from road salts, oil, gas and corrosion to withstand the test of time. The exhaust utilizes 304 stainless steel with mandrel bends throughout, allowing the air to flow freely until it's composed sound exits the 2 rear exit exhaust tips, producing a sound that's aggressive, without being annoying, and that’s sure to put a smile on your face. We went black on the pipes because the rear end of the Slingshot is black & we really dig that stealthy look. The system runs down the trans tunnel then works its way up the left side of the Slingshot balancing out the rear end, where it then splits into a "Y" pipe that uses factory mounting points to hang those sexy exhaust tips out back, where they should be. Lastly we have created custom "exhaust inserts" that allow you to pop some color for a one of a kind look.
Now we understand that ground clearance on the Slingshot is a frequently discussed topic, especially for those of you running aftermarket coilovers or air suspension, so we ran the exhaust down the trans tunnel so that you don't lose any ground clearance. We also had the exhaust designed with adequate space between the tips so that you can leave your license plate in the stock location.
