I would like to do this review with info that I was looking for when looking to purchase so… here goes. This is a great product. Install is not really that hard its just time consuming due to having to take the dash apart. You will have to purchase a harness to plug into your factory 31 pin harness and make connections to the harness on the back of the radio, unless you want to cut into your factory wiring. The only thing i used from the optional kit slingmods carries was the backup camera video cord adaptor. With the 31 pin harness, you dont need anything else. I cannot speak for the built in amp for the speakers due to I have the 8” front pods, 6 1/2” headrest pods, and one of the 10” enclosure pods so all my speakers are running off wetsounds amps. The picture on the radio is great with the kit that sets the radio back at an angle. I really have zero regrets with this purchase at the moment. I will update if I do though. The OEM unit didnt have the best reception in places far from the city, but THIS unit has problems in town. I had to buy an antenna amp tonight & I'll see if that helps. I DONT look forward to tearing it apart again.
A video online showed how to remove the dash components to get the unit into place. Wiring the back-up harness to the transmission was tough.
you said the unit is for people who do installs; Id have to agree.
I dont have experience w/ audio (my neighbor does and he helped) but ive worked on wires for vehicles many times & I'll just say I will be glad when Im done working on this.
I have to agree with Burnem that I should have just left it OEM. Its a nice unit, bright & clear, nice back up camera but I dont see an improvement in sound, reception is worse AND i lost my cup holders..
(shrug) what do ya do..
