It is difficult to form a perfect seal between two pieces of solid metal. Therefore it is important that the space between these pieces has a gasket inserted between them to prevent air leaks within the engine, which would compromise internal pressure. A leak between vital components such as the engine and exhaust will lead to a stark drop in performance as well as the threat of corrosive agents damaging a Slingshot's components. Old or damaged gaskets need to be replaced before a more serious repair is warranted. It is also very important that the proper gasket is matched to its corresponding components.
